Hannah Lohmeier became the 38th Augustana athlete to win NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship honors.
Although her senior season was completed over four months ago, the honors continue to pour in for Augustana senior
Hannah Lohmeier (Waunakee HS, Waunakee, Wis.). Lohmeier, who was a standout for the Vikings on the soccer field for four years, was notified today that she will be the winner of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
The $7,500 grant is awarded by the NCAA to "student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition." She is one of just 29 female student-athletes (all divisions) in the country to win the prestigious honor.
Lohmeier certainly combined athletics and academics throughout her entire her career. Lohmeier was a two-time College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America following her junior and senior seasons.
She was a first-team selection each year. Lohmeier is the epitome of the term "student-athlete" as she excels both in the classroom, where she has a 3.99 grade point average while majoring in biochemistry and on the soccer pitch where never missed a game during her entire career.
Lohmeier anchored the Vikings defense from her central midfield position and in 2016 she also tied for the team lead in goals with six, half of which were game-winners. She also had two assists and led the team in total points with 14. She finished her career with 15 goals and two assists for a total of 32 points.
She served as team captain for Augustana in 2016 and was named to the all-conference team of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for the second straight season. She is a four-time academic all-conference selection. Lohmeier was also an NCAA Division III All-Central Region selection in 2016.
During the summer of 2016 Lohmeier worked under a research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota where she was selected to present a paper at the American Society of Nephrology Kidney Week. She has been a research assistant in the Augustana Chemistry Department and also serves as a tutor for a human anatomy course.
Lohmeier has been active in the community as well, serving as a Young Life leader for Moline High School. She is an active member of the Augustana Fellowship of Christian Athletes and still works as a liberal studies retreat leader.
Hannah is the daughter of Heather Mabie of Madison, Wisconsin and James Lohmeier of Waunakee, Wisconsin.
She is the 38
th Augustana athlete to win NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship honors and 26 of those have come since 2000.
