NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Senior
Tanner Osing (Havana HS, Havana, Ill.) led three Augustana All-America efforts Saturday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at North Central College. Osing's performance, along with senior
Isaac Smith's
(Marion HS, Marion, Iowa) in the 400 and the Viking 4x400 relay team lifted Coach
Paul Olsen's outfit to 15th place in the team standings.
Osing took third in the 3000, finishing in 8:21.58, just off his season-best time of 8:21.09. Smith ran a :50.18 for seventh place in the 400 and anchored the 1600-meter relay, which took fifth in a season-best 3:17.62. Joining him were juniors
Alex LaMendola (Dixon HS, Dixon, Ill.),
Kyle Hucker (Wauconda HS, Wauconda, Ill.) and
Josh Yamamoto (Fremd HS, Palatine., Ill.). All five athletes earned All-America honors.
Also competing at the national meet for Olsen were senior
Marckus Simmons (Downers Grove North HS, Westmont, Ill.) in the weight throw and junior
Ethan Ehlers (St. Joseph HDS, Kenosha, Wis.) in the shot put. Simmons threw 56' 5¾" on Friday to finish 13th and Ehlers was 14th in the shot Saturday, with a heave of 50' 2¾".
Host North Central and Wisconsin-La Crosse tied for the team title with 34 points each. Augustana tied Wisconsin-River Falls for 15th with 12 points apiece.
