OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet jumped in front 6-0 in the first quarter Saturday and cruised to a 14-10 win over Augustana at the Cutler Atheltic Complex. Despite seven goals by sophomore Nick Gallo (Maine South HS, Park Ridge., Ill.), the Vikings fell to 2-5 on the year, while the host Comets won their first game after three losses.

Four different Olivet players scored in the eight minutes of the game. Trevor Bailey scored at 5:14 and 1:13 of the first to put the Comets up 6-0. Gallo used a McKay Potter (Hudson HS, Hudson, Wis.) assist to score Augustana's first goal at the one-minute mark and it was 6-1 after one period.

Gallo opened the second with another goal, converting a Luke Burrow (Noblesville HS, Noblesville, Ind.) assist. After more than nine scoreless minutes, sophomore Lee Whorwell (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) trimmed the Viking deficit to 6-3 with an unassisted goal. However, Zach Sanders scored on a man advantage and Bailey added two goals in the final two and a half minutes of the period to give Olivet a 9-3 lead at halftime.

The Comets put the game out of reach in the third quarter, scoring four goals by the midway point of the period to go up 13-3. Gallo scored his third goal of the game to end the third and added four more tallies in the fourth—the second assisted by Sam Daly (Maine South HS, Park Ridge., Ill.) with Augustana a man up. Gallo also assisted on a Hayden Holland (Owatonna HS, Owatonna, Minn.) goal and Whorwell scored again as well.

Olivet outshot the Vikings 38-32 and had a 33-26 edge in ground balls. Each team committed 15 turnovers.

Sophomore Jeremiah Heredia (Warren HS, Gurnee, Ill.) recorded nine saves in goal and Potter won 18 of 28 faceoffs.
