Vikings win three of four dual meets; finish fifth at CCIW Championships; Allison Patch sets school record in 200 backstroke
 
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The 2015-16 Augustana women's swimming season was highlighted by a 3-1 dual meet record and Allison Patch's (Moline HS, Coal Valley, Ill.) school record in the 200 backstroke. The Vikings finished fifth at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships.
 
The season started off on Halloween with decisive wins over Knox (147-53) and Loras (126-92). Sophomore Kristin Schoenecker (Edwardsville HS, Glen Carbon, Ill.) won the 200 and 500 freestyles.
 
On November 20, Augustana won 10 of 11 events in downing Monmouth 149-51. Schoenecker was a winner again in the 200 and 500 freestyles.
 
The Vikings finished fourth among eight teams at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on November 21. Senior Jordan Johnson (Appleton North HS, Appleton, Wis.) was Augustana's top individual finisher, taking fifth in the 100 backstroke.
 
Senior Emma Novak (Eden Prairie HS, Eden Prairie, Minn.) turned in the Vikings' top performance at the Jean Freeman Invitational at the University of Minnesota on December 4-5, taking eighth in the 400 individual medley. No team scores were compiled.
 
The team started the new calendar year with its final dual meet at Carthage on January 9. Freshman Mia Polinski (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) was a double winner in a 147-110 setback to the Lady Reds, taking the 500 freestyle and 200 individual medley. Patch (100 freestyle) and Schoenecker (1000 freestyle) also picked up individual wins.
 
At the Grinnell Invitational on January 22-23, Augustana finished seventh in a 13-team field. Patch turned in the Vikings' best individual performance, taking fourth in the 50 freestyle.
 
A trip to the Wheaton Quad on January 30 yielded a third-place finish. Patch won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Polinski was a winner in the 200 butterfly and Schoenecker in the 200 freestyle.
 
At the CCIW Championships in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin on February 10-13, Augustana finished fifth. Patch's school record of 2:09.71 in the 200 backstroke came on day three and earned her a third-place finish. Polinski finished third in the 200 butterfly, swimming the third-fastest time in school history. Polinski also swam the second-fastest 400 individual medley in school history with a sixth-place 4:42.90 on day two.
 
Both Patch and Polinski earned all-conference recognition.
