Sprinter David Devore has become the 35th Augustana student-athlete to be awarded an NCAA
Postgraduate Scholarship.ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – David Devore (Midland HS, Midland, Mich.), a recent Augustana graduate and highly-decorated track & field athlete has been awarded a Postgraduate Scholarship by the NCAA. He is the 35th student-athlete from Augustana to earn the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. The $7,500 grant is awarded by the NCAA to "student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition".
Devore is a two-time Capital One Academic All-America honoree, earning second team recognition as a junior and first team honors this year. He graduated in May with degrees in mathematics and computer science, carrying a 3.68 grade point average.
A member of Augustana's national champion indoor 4x400 relay this year, Devore finished his career as a nine-time All-American. In addition, he was a 13-time College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin champion and a three-time winner of Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the CCIW Championships.
Devore holds, or is a contributor to, four school records, including the 3:15.97 run by the indoor national champion 1600 relay. He also led off the Viking 4x100 relay which finished fourth at this year's NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in a school-record time of :40.87. He set a new school standard at this year's CCIW indoor meet, winning the 55 in :06.45 and was also a member of the outdoor 4x200 relay which set a school record of 1:26.51 in 2014.
A three-time All-American at this year's outdoor championships, Devore finished sixth in the 200 (:21.53) and ran on Augustana's third-place 4x400 relay (3:11.06) in addition to his work with the 4x100 relay. He shared the Vikings' Most Valuable Track Performer award with classmate and fellow NCAA Postgraduate Scholar

At the 2015 CCIW Outdoor Championships, Devore won the 100 and 200 and ran on Augustana's winning 4x100 relay. That performance earned him the meet's Most Outstanding Track Athlete recognition for the second year in a row. He won the same award indoors in 2014 after capturing the 60 and 200 individually and running on the winning 4x400 relay.
The son of Helena and Dave Devore of Midland, Michigan, David has served internships in automation and software development at Dow Chemical as well as working as an ITS assistant at Augustana. He plans on continuing his education at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
