David Voland wins NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship; Becomes 34th Augustana student athlete to win prestigious award

Senior David Voland earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, it was announced on 
Wednesday, May 6. He is the 34th student-athlete in Augustana history to win the 
prestigious honor.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Augustana senior track & field All-American David Voland (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for the winter athletic season.  Voland, one of the most decorated athletes in the long and storied history of Viking track & field, has combined athletic success along with academic excellence. The multiple All-American carries a 3.83 grade point average with majors in math and education.
 
Voland is the 34th student-athlete to be awarded the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in Augustana's history.  The $7,500-dollar grant is awarded by the NCAA to "student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition".
 
A standout throughout his entire career at Augustana, Voland anchored the Vikings' 4x400 relay to an NCAA Division III national title in March of this past year at the national meet in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He brought Augustana home with a school record time 3:15.97.
 
He is a nine-time NCAA Division III All-American, six as a member of the 1600 relay (three indoor and three outdoor) and three times in the 400 hurdles. He has won a total of 11 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin titles during his career, including two this past indoor season when he won the 400 and anchored the winning 4x400 relay team.
 
Last spring he finished second in the NCAA Division III national championship in the 400 hurdles with a school record time of :50.88. He also anchored the Vikings' 4x400 relay team to a second place finish in 3:09.81. He owns the school record in both the 4x200 and 4x400 relays both indoors and outdoors.
 
This past winter he was named as the NCAA Division III's  "Midwest Regional Athlete of the Year" for the indoor season. He is a two-time Capital One Academic All-American. He won the Jack Swartz Award in the CCIW last spring for his combination of athletic and academic balance.
 
He owns the fastest time on the Augustana team this spring in the 110 hurdles (:14.72 at the Meet of Champions on April 18) and the 400 intermediate hurdles (:51.14 on that same day). He also anchored the Vikings' 4x400 relay to victory at the Drake Relays on April 25 with a time of 3:10.25. He is also a member of the 4x200 relay that recorded a season's best time of 1;26.61 on April 24 at the Drake Relays.
 
Voland has been involved in the Augustana Emerge Leadership Program and has served as a peer leader for the last three years. He was the co-chair for Awareness Week and volunteered for the St. Baldrick's Day fundraiser, World Relief in Moline, the River Bend Foodbank and the Quad City Botanical Center.
