ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana men went 2-2 in dual meets and finished fourth at the CCIW Championships during the 2014-15 season, Head Coach Dan Lloyd's first at the school. Along the way, six school records fell—three individual marks and three relay marks. Senior co-captain Aaron Holt (Mount Vernon HS, Mount Vernon, Ill.) had a hand in taking down five of those records and freshman Jacob Speechley (Lockport HS, Lockport, Ill.) anchored all three record-setting relays.
 
A dominating performance welcomed Lloyd in his initial venture as Augustana's head coach. The Vikings won the Halloween Classic at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Illinois on October 25 by a wide margin.
 
Victories in 10 of 13 events, including double individual wins from two swimmers and a diver, helped Augustana roll to an impressive 152-67 dual meet victory over Loras on November 7 in the Carver Pool. The Vikings also won both relay events to give Lloyd a successful home debut.
 
Senior Josh Wielenga (School of Environmental Studies, Apple Valley, Minn.) won both diving events, but it was not enough as Augustana dropped a 125-99 decision to Lake Forest on November 16 in Lake Forest, Illinois. The Foresters won nine of the 13 events to hand the Vikings their first defeat of the season.
 
Holt won the 50 freestyle and helped Augustana to a second place finish at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on November 22 in Bloomington, Illinois.
 
Two solid days at the Pioneer Classic in Grinnell, Iowa on December 5-6 culminated in second-place finish in the 13-team meet. Host Grinnell won the meet with 1,178 points. The Vikings were a strong second with 863.5 points, far ahead of Nebraska Wesleyan's third place total of 526.
 
After winning two individual events and two relays on the first day of competition at the Grinnell Invitational, Augustana once again won four events on the second day. The Vikings won three individual events and a relay on January 17 and finished third in the team standings.
 
Wielenga and junior David Sommers (Westlake HS, Thousand Oaks, Calif.) each posted individual victories in Augustana's 203-62 loss to Carthage on January 24 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. On January 31, the Vikings swam to a 148-64 non-conference victory over Monmouth in Monmouth, Illinois. Augustana won 10 of 12 events.
 
At the CCIW Championships, held February 6-7 and 12-14 at Illinois Wesleyan (diving) and Carthage (swimming), respectively, the Vikings finished fourth for the third consecutive year. Holt, sophomore Ian Disteldorf (Brother Rice HS, Oak Forest, Ill.), Sommers, junior Adam Bernardi (Boylan Catholic HS, Belvidere, Ill.) and Wielenga earned All-CCIW honors with top-three finishes.  Holt finished third in the 100 backstroke, Disteldorf third in the 100 breaststroke, Sommers third in the 200 butterfly and Bernardi third in the 400 individual medley. Wielenga was third in both diving events.
 
All six of the new school records were set at the CCIW Championships. Holt's :50.96 in the 100 backstroke prelims broke his own record. He also set a new school standard with his fourth-place 1:54.49 in the 200 backstroke. That broke the previous mark of 1:56.00 that he shared with junior Felipe Hernandez (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.). Bernardi's third-place 4:09.16 broke his own school record in the 400 IM. Both the 200 and 400 medley relay records fell. Holt, Disteldorf, freshman Chris Wilson and Speechley set a new standard (1:33.82) at 200 meters. The record-setting 400-meter unit (3:27.38) was Holt, Disteldorf, Sommers and Speechley. Holt, freshman Miguel Rodriguez (Boylan Catholic HS, Rockford, Ill.), Hernandez and Speechley took down the 400 freestyle record.
