Senior Thomas Enke is the 33rd student-athlete in Augustana's school history awarded with a
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – Senior linebacker
Thomas Enke (Millard West HS, Omaha, Neb.) was presented with an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. He enjoyed a decorated career at Augustana on the gridiron as well as in classroom. The senior holds a 3.99 GPA as a biochemistry major.
Enke is Augustana's 33
rd student-athlete and 12
th football player to be awarded the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in school history. The $7,500-dollar grant is awarded by the NCAA to "student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition".
During his time as a Viking, Enke has been a consistent model for hard work and determination as he was a two time varsity letter recipient via special teams entering his final season. Through three seasons with the Vikings Enke had only compiled two solo tackles and five assists. During his senior campaign he earned a starting spot by the third game of the year and didn't look back as he concluded the season as the Viking's seventh leading tackler. He totaled 36 total tackles (22 solo and 14 assists) with 6.5 tackles for losses of 41 yards and 4.5 sacks for 37 yards. The linebacker also had two pass deflections, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.
On homecoming weekend this season Enke erupted for his best game against Wheaton when he had 7 total tackles (6 solo and 1 assist), 2.5 tackles for losses of 4 yards and 1.5 sacks for losses of 3 yards.
Enke's strong senior season earned him second team honors on the All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin team. He was also named to the
Capital One Academic All-America first team and is a two-time Academic All-CCIW team member.
He served as an undergraduate research assistant in the radiation oncology department at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in the summer of 2013. From August of 2013 until the present he has been a researcher in the chemistry department at Augustana. He has also served as both a lab proctor and a tutor in the school's chemistry department the last two school years.
Enke won the undergraduate award in analytical chemistry, the organic chemistry achievement award and the first-year chemistry student achievement honor. Enke is also a member of the Aristeia honor society. He was recently admitted to the University of Nebraska Medical School for next fall and is the son of Charles and Carol Enke of Omaha, Nebraska.
