Augustana senior women's soccer standout Maggie Hoscheit (St. Charles East HS, St. Charles, Ill.) was awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, it was announced today. Hoscheit, the team captain and a defensive stalwart for the Vikings throughout her career, is the 30th student-athlete in school history to win the coveted award.

Hoscheit was one of just 29 female athletes across all divisions to be awarded the postgraduate scholarship by the NCAA. The $7,500-dollar grant is awarded by the NCAA to "student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition."

She was also a two-time Capital One Academic All-American, winning that prestigious honor following both her junior and senior seasons.

Hoscheit was an extremely successful player for head coach Scott Mejia's Vikings throughout her career and obviously excelled in the classroom as well. She was a fixture in the back line of the Augustana defense for all four years but especially in the last two years. A team captain the last two seasons, she was a first team all-conference selection in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin as a junior and again as a senior. She was also was an all-Midwest Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. She helped the Vikings win the CCIW title in 2012 and advance to the NCAA Division III national tournament. Augustana finished 2012 with a 16-5-0 overall record.

This past year the Vikings finished with a 12-5-4 mark and a 4-2-1 record in the CCIW. Augustana advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament for the second straight season and for the sixth time in school history. Hoscheit was a first team all-conference selection for the second year in a row. She was the top defender for a team that has allowed just 13 goals in 21 games for a 0.59 goals-against-average. Augustana recorded a total of 12 shutouts throughout the season.

During her time as a player she has helped the Vikings to a record of 52-20-10.

Hoscheit, the daughter of John and Teri Hoscheit of St. Charles, Illinois, is a biology major with a 3.88 grade point average. She was the winner of the Jack Swartz Award in the CCIW last fall for her combination of academic excellence and athletic prowess.

An active participant in community activities, Hoscheit has participated in a seven-day live-in mission trip at the Missionaries of Charity's Gift of Peace Home in Washington, D.C. each of the last two summers. She is involved in Athletes Giving Back on the Augustana campus as well as Relay for Life and the Augustana Dance Marathon. She served as the soccer team's leader for the college's local girl scouts "Girl in Sports Day" last spring. She also has served as a Salvation Army food bank volunteer and worked as a hospice volunteer.
