PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Coming off a five-goal win on Friday, Augustana women's soccer (1-0-2) traveled north on Wednesday to face UW-Platteville (1-2-1). Despite facing constant pressure, the Augustana defense held strong to secure a 0-0 tie. 

 

Inside the Box Score

• Sara Schinker was perfect in goal for the Vikings, stopping all five shots she faced for her second shutout of the season. 

• Mary Baker provided Augustana's only shot in the match.

• Six members of the Vikings' starting 11 played all 90 minutes of the match.

 

How it Happened

 

First Half

Just 90 seconds in, Platteville came inches away from opening the scoring when one of their shots ricocheted off the Augustana crossbar. The Pioneers fired another shot before the 10-minute mark was hit, but it missed high left. Two minutes later, another Platteville shot came, but the Vikings' defense got a block to steer it away from goal. 

 

Following a break for substitutions, Schinker made her first save at 17:49 to preserve the 0-0 game. After another blocked shot, Schinker stepped up again to record back-to-back saves at 21:55 and 22:03. Three minutes later, the keeper was called upon again to keep the game scoreless. The Pioneers missed their final two shots of the first half, and the score remained 0-0 heading to the break. 

 

Second Half

After 12 minutes of time ticked away in the second frame, Schinker made her fifth save at 57:22. Platteville missed the net on their next five attempts over the following 20 minutes. With the clock winding down, Augustana had a chance to get on the board at 84:05, but Baker's attempt missed to the left side. 

 

A final pair of shots were attempted by the home team, but neither found its way into the net, and, once the clock read zero, the score read 0-0.

The Vikings stay in The Badger State for their next contest, which will be on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they visit Lawrence for a 4 p.m. game.
